General Description
5-Azacytidine is a chemical analog of the nucleoside cytidine that incorporates into DNA and inhibits DNA methylation
At low doses, 5-azacytidine irreversibly binds the enzyme DNA methyltransferase (DNMT)
Applications
5-Azacytidine has been used for cardiomyocyte differentiation from mesenchymal stem cells
It has been used as a potent DNMT inhibitor in the study of tumor cell proliferation and induction of gene expression following demethylation
5-Azacytidine can globally change histone modification patterns
