5-Methylhydantoin is usede as a reactant for preparation of N-chlorohydantoin, Mitsunobu reaction, Pseudomonas putida strain allowing conversion into L-amino acids, D-hydantoinase from Agrobacteria tumefaceins and enzymatic racemization.
