Applications

Hexamethyldisilazane is used as a reagent for the preparation of trimethylsilyl derivatives such as trimethylsilylate alcohols, amines and thiols. It is involved in the preparation of trimethylsilyl ethers from hydroxy compounds. It is also used as a precursor to many bases common in organic synthesis and organometallic chemistry. It finds Application in photolithography, electron microscopy and pyrolysis-gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. Further, it is used for the protection of sensitive functional groups during chemical synthesis.
