Literature References
Employed by Rathke: J. Org. Chem., 50, 2622 (1985), to enhance the apparent base strength of triethylamine in the promotion of acylation reactions of dialkyl malonates (see Diethyl malonate, A15468, and Dimethyl malonate, A11007), or Ethyl potassium malonate, A10720. Other metal salts were ineffective in the malonate acylation reaction. See Triethylamine, A12646, for further discussion of the effect of metal salts on base-promoted reactions. In combination with NaI and triethylamine, promotes the carboxylation of ketones with CO 2 at atmospheric pressure: J. Org. Chem., 50, 4877 (1985). The reaction involves the in situ formation of MgI 2, and has been extended to a preparation of ß -ketoamides from ketones and isocyanates: Synth. Commun., 19, 59 (1989). A highly activated form of Mg metal has been generated by treating MgCl 2 with Li metal: J. Org. Chem., 48, 4141 (1983); 52, 3674 (1987).
