It is involved in the synthesis of cyclic tetrapeptides. Further, it reacts with potassium enolate of ethyl 4,4,4-trifluoroacetoacetate to produce ethyl 2,4-bis(trifluoromethyl)-4-hydroxydihydro-3-furoate.
